There are several reason one might want to install a modchip into a Saturn. The main reason however would be to of course play burned games on CD-R. There were many great titles on the Saturn that got over looked due to its low popularity and a Modchip can allow you to play games you might otherwise have missed out on completely. You can also backup your games, keep the originals in the cases and play the backups thus preventing any damage to your originals. There is also the ability to play games from other regions without a cart. Now don't mistake what Im saying the Saturn modchip does NOT bypass region checking but there is a simple tool called SatConv which you can use to change the region of just about any game to the region of your choice thus allowing your console to boot games from other regions! Finally, with a modchip you would have access to all of the homebrew games and applications that have been developed for the Saturn.
