While trying to mod your console there are many problems that can arise. Most of them are not serious and can easily be fixed if you know how to identify what could be causing the problem. The following are some typical problems that have come up. Most problems are caused by the Modchip or the Ribbon cable not being properly inserted so if all else fails look there. Thanks to Mal for the common problems listed in the table below. (Its important to note that the table below was tested using a model 2 32 pin Saturn.)
| If the ribbon cable isn't
properly inserted (either bridge): No boot up animation Two large red spheres at the CD player screen No CD rotation Displays "checking disc format" No power to mod (either bridge): No boot up animation Two green cubes at the CD player screen No CD rotation Displays "checking disc format" Signal wire not attached (0014 bridge): No boot up animation Two green cubes at the CD player screen No CD rotation Displays "checking disc format" |
Signal wire not attached (0019
bridge): Boot up animation Long pause (15secs) at 'Sega Saturn' screen Two green cubes at the CD player screen -No CD rotation Displays "checking disc format" Wrong solder bridge (0019 bridge): When all else is correct, no problems. (very interesting) No solder bridge: Boot up animation Two green cubes at the CD player screen CD rotates Displays "checking disc format" Will then only play audio tracks of CD-Rs and originals

You can also try filing down the bottom part of the modchip. Sometimes there is a little bit of extra board that makes it difficult to properly insert the chip into the motherboard. Doing this has fixed my problem many times when all else was correct. Also I would recomend not soldering the power cable down until you are sure the modchip is correctly installed. Trying to work with the chip while its attached to the Saturn can be frustrating.
