Classic Gaming Sega Style! Sega Nomad - Relive the Classics!

Sega Nomad. Sega Nomad

The Sega Nomad was basically a handheld Sega Gensis with a built-in color LCD screen. It was released in October 1995 with a price of $179. The Nomad was only officially released in North America however it was based on the Mega Jet (Mega Jet was basically a minature Genesis console that could be plugged into a TV or mini screen on airline flights in Japan and required an AC adapter, it could not be powered by batteries.) The Nomad also had an A/V out plug to allow users to play games on a television screen. The unit also featured another controller port allowing another to play via a controller. With these features the nomad was not only a portable gaming system but could also be used as home gaming system.

The Nomad was a well built product, for one the screen resolution was very good for its time and the system already had a back catalog of over 600 games. Unfortuanatly it also had some problems, the 32X and Sega CD along with the Power Base Converter (Allowed gamers to play master system games on Gensis) were all incompatible. The Nomad was also released late in the Genesis's life, and was already up against 32bit systems such as Saturn and Playstation and as such failed to gain much support despite a $100 price drop. The lack of sales forced Sega to drop plans for a European and Japanese release, and the console slowly faded away as most gamers moved away from 16bit to 32bit platforms.
